Colloquium on December 13 and 14 2007 : " Figures and problems of globalization " organized by the Institut du Monde contemporain

The six chairs of the Institut du Monde Contemporain will be meeting on December 13 and 14 2007, for a symposium entitled " Figures et Problèmes de la Mondialisation ". Two dimensions of globalization will be addressed in the course of the conference: governance and global public goods.

The day of December 13  will be devoted to the question of governance. Over the past twenty years, new forms of regulation and organization have revolutionized the world. The categories of law, economics and politics used to describe the international order have, at the same time, had to be fundamentally revised. The day will take stock of this revolution in practices and concepts, by comparing the points of view of theorists from the three disciplines with those of leaders of international organizations.

The issue of global public goods will be the focus of the day-long event on December 14  . Derived from economics, this notion is debated by jurists, economists, anthropologists and philosophers. Brought back into the field of social sciences, the issue of global public goods is not only at the heart of epistemological and theoretical debates, but also at the heart of contemporary social issues.
