Brain Week (March 16-22, 2015). Conference/debate at the Collège de France (CIRB)

Brain Myths and Legends

Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 17:00 to 19:00. Guillaume Budé Amphitheatre

Collège de France
11, place Marcelin Berthelot
75005 Paris

Organized by CIRB (Centre Interdisciplinaire de Recherche en Biologie)

The brain is our body's most mysterious and complex organ. Because of its complexity, it conceals many secrets that neuroscientists are still trying to decipher. These unknown mysteries make our brain the object of many myths, legends and popular beliefs: Is there a correlation between brain size and intelligence? Do we only use 10% of our brain? Does the brain have a sex? Right- or left-handed brain? Does classical music contribute to the development of intelligence? In the historic setting of the Collège de France and with the help of renowned neuroscientists, we take a look at the beliefs most deeply rooted in the collective imagination, and unveil the truths about our brains.

Moderator: Elena PASQUINELLI (ENS researcher and member of La Main à la Pâte Foundation)

Speakers: Patricia GASPAR (Research Director, IFM), Pascale PIOLINO (Professor, Université Paris Descartes), Mathias PESSIGLIONE (Researcher, ICM)

This conference is organized as part of Brain Week for the city of Paris (March 16-22, 2015).
