Laurence Boisson de Chazournes is Professor of International Law and the Law of International Organizations at the University of Geneva, where she heads the Geneva LLM. in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS). She is also Director of the Geneva Water Hub's Platform for International Freshwater Law and was a member of the Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace (2015-2017). In 2008, she was awarded the Elisabeth Haub Prize for Environmental Law. She is a member of the Institute of International Law (IIL) and was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council (UN) between 2011 and 2017. She also acts as an expert for international organizations (including the UN, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO)). In the field of dispute resolution, Laurence Boisson de Chazournes is an arbitrator (International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), World Trade Organization (WTO), Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)) and counsel and advocate before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS). She has advised on negotiations concerning the management of international waterways (inter alia, the Senegal River and the Nile).
