Biography

Edouard Bard is Professor of Climate and Ocean Evolution at the Collège de France, and his laboratory is based in Aix-en-Provence (CEREGE, UMR Aix-Marseille Université, CNRS, IRD, INRAE, Collège de France).

An engineering geologist from ENSG in Nancy, he prepared his thesis at CEA in Gif-sur-Yvette and obtained his doctorate in 1987 from the University of Paris-Saclay. He then carried out his research at the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University in New York(Postdoctoral Fellow then Associate Research Scientist). He returned to France in 1990, first at the CEA in Gif-sur-Yvette, then in 1991 as a professor at the University of Aix-Marseille, and since 2001 at the Collège de France.

Edouard Bard is a member of the Académie des Sciences (2010) and the Academia Europaea (2009), an honorary member of the Institut Universitaire de France (1994), an international member of the US National Academy of Sciences (2014) and the Royal Academy of Belgium (2011). He was elected Honorary Member of the European Geosciences Union (2013), and Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (1997), the Geological Society of America (1997), the Geochemical Society and the European Association of Geochemistry (2020).
