Michael W. Nachman is a professor of the Department of Integrative Biology, and the Director of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, University of California, Berkeley, California. His B.A. is from the University of California, Berkeley (1983); he received his PhD from University of Michigan in 1990. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Oxford University (1990-1991) and Cornell University (1991-1994).
His lab studies the forces shaping genetic variation in natural populations. He says: "We have a particular interest in understanding the genetic basis of adaptation and the genetic basis of speciation using the mouse as a model".
