Abstract

Computational geometry became a recognized subject of algorithmic research in the early seventies. The intellectual climate of computer science in those years will be evoked based on my personal experience, and the challenges facing the emerging discipline will be reviewed. Nearly half a century later, with mature satisfaction we contemplate the amazing development of the field.
