Demographic history, social and cultural factors and biological forces, such as the selection pressures exerted by changing environments (climatic, nutritional, pathogenic, etc.), have all had a major impact on the genome variability of human populations. By studying this variability, we can better understand the history of our species and how different populations have adapted over time to the different environments they have encountered.
