Evolution and Development of the Human Brain

The seminar presented by Philipp Gunz (Department of Human Evolution, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig) highlighted the particularities of human brain growth. It is during the first year of life that the morphological characteristics of theHomo sapiens brain (globularity, protrusion of the parietal regions and extensive development of the cerebellum) become apparent, distinguishing it from those of other hominins.
