Abstract
"At a time when we are bombarded with images, on television or the Internet, whether news or entertainment programs, and when the technology and industry of image production are constantly advancing and becoming more sophisticated, it is important to remain resolutely aware of the act of representation; to keep in mind that it is not just a question of "what" to film, i.e. the content of the image produced, but of "how" to film" Amos Gitaï
What happens to filmic aesthetics if they are opposed to the principle of illustration? Is this aesthetic not also a cinematic ethic? This approach will hinge on the question of cinema in a geopolitical context in perpetual metamorphosis. In the Middle East more than anywhere else, the filmmaker's gesture is akin to that of the archaeologist. It's a question of taking into account strata, memories and histories to approach contemporary human situations.
