It is not uncommon to find in publications relating to the Koran the terms " vulgate " or " canon ". This analogy with the Bible should not conceal the fact that, although today a particular Qur'anic text constitutes the dominant reference, the path that led to this situation is relatively complex. A crucial episode in this process took place at the beginning of the tenth century, when the conditions that a Quranic reading had to meet in order to be valid in the eyes of the Law were precisely defined.
