As the Chair's title indicates, François Déroche's teaching takes a historical approach to the Koranic text. This includes questions relating to the constitution of the Qur'an in the context of Late Antiquity, as well as others linked to the way in which its transmission took place, and which call on the privileged witnesses that are the manuscripts that enable us to follow this transmission from the middle of the 7th century, just a few decades after Muḥammad's death. In the current context of intense revival of Qur'anic studies, the lecture is also an opportunity to take stock of ongoing debates.
