Abstract

This lecture addresses the question of the link between Osiris and the living from the point of view of phraseology, by studying the qualifications linking Osiris to life and the living, and iconography, by taking into account the differences in the appearances adopted by the god (mummiform vs. " costume of the living "). After general considerations on the Egyptian delimitation of life and death, which implies that the " morts " can be qualified as " vivants " as is Osiris, a specific study is devoted to the designation Neb-ânkh " maître de la vie " and its characterization as an epiclesis (or cult epithet) of the god. In particular, it is analyzed in contexts where it appears in series with other epiclesis. Several sources in which " maître(sse) de la vie " qualifies a deity as a dispenser of benefits are also highlighted. Finally, the case of the chapel of Osiris " maître de la vie " at Karnak is studied in depth, through its differentiated representations of the god according to the rooms of the chapel and the privileged link between this form of the god and the deceased divine adorer Aménirdis Ist.
