The gods resided in their temples in the form of statues : it was up to the male cult personnel to take care of them, as we saw in the first instance. We then examined the different types of women consecrated to the deities. Finally, wishing to be guided in their decisions by the deities, the Babylonians were able to question them through diviners, to whom the third part of this lecture was devoted.

Each city in Babylonia had a special link with a deity and its dwelling place, designated by a ceremonial name in Sumerian. In Babylon, it was Marduk in  ; in Kuta, it was Erra in Emeslam; in Dilbat, Uraš resided in E-ibbi-Anum. In every city, there were temples dedicated to other divinities: in Babylon, for example, in addition to the Esagil, home of the god Marduk, there was the Enamtila of Enlil, the Ekišnugal of Nanna, the Enamhe of Addu, etc. In the Esagil, offerings were made not only to Marduk, but also to his wife Zarpanitum, their son Nabu, and so on.
