Discourses on identity, whether sexual, religious, ethnic or racial, are systematically marked by fear of otherness, disguised as phobia. The issue of integration is the struggle against the absence of logic, rationality, interest and curiosity. The binarism between freedoms, so prized in Europe but not always respected, vs. slavery still relevant today, makes the European ideal of democracy more problematic than we'd like to admit.
