Vincent Déroche, born in 1959, alumnus of the École normale supérieure (1978), agrégé de Lettres (1981), member of the École d'Athènes (1983), was a researcher at the CNRS from 1988 to 2018, and since 2018 has been Professor of Byzantine Greek at Sorbonne Université and Director of Studies at the École pratique des hautes études,5th section (chair " Christianisme byzantin ").
His research has focused on the religious and social history of Byzantium, in particular through hagiography and religious polemic, and secondarily on Late Antique archaeology through the sites of Delphi and Bazyan (Iraq). He has been deputy director of UMR 8167 Orient et Méditerranée since 2014, as director of the Centre d'histoire et civilisation de Byzance team, a component of this UMR.
