Sylvain Gervason is a biochemist interested in metalloproteins and more specifically proteins with iron-sulfur centers. After completing a master's degree in structural biology in Grenoble, Sylvain obtained his PhD in biochemistry in 2021 at the Université Paris-Saclay under the supervision of Dr. D'Autréaux Benoit. His thesis work focused on understanding the biosynthesis of iron-sulfur centers and the role of frataxin, a protein involved in this process, whose defective expression leads to a neurodegenerative disease called Friedreich's ataxia. Sylvain recently joined the Collège de France as a postdoctoral researcher in the Chemistry of Biological Processes laboratory headed by Pr. Marc Fontecave. He is particularly interested in the [4Fe4S]-dependent enzyme MnmA involved in the sulfuration of transfer RNAs.
