René Bloch is Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Berne. After training in Classics and Semitic languages at the University of Basel and the Université Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV), René Bloch turned to the literature and history of ancient Judaism. His work focuses on Hellenistic Judaism, in particular Philo of Alexandria and Flavius Josephus. He has also published on Greco-Roman ethnography, the history of anti-Semitism and myth in Jewish thought. His books include Ancient Jewish Diaspora: Essays on Hellenism (Brill, 2023), Jüdische Drehbühnen (Mohr Siebeck, 2013), Moses und der Mythos (Brill, 2011) and Antike Vorstellungen vom Judentum (Franz Steiner, 2002).
