With a PhD in Protein Biochemistry, Ornella Bimai worked on the structural and functional characterization of the TtcA-TtuA family of tRNA enzymes, responsible for tRNA thiolation and dependent on an iron-sulfur center at the Chemistry of Biological Processes Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Béatrice Golinelli-Pimpaneau. She then pursued her academic research with a post-doctorate at Stockholm University, under the supervision of Professor Britt-Marie Sjöberg, where she studied the evolution of ribonucleotide reductases (RNRs) and their transcriptional regulator, NrdR. In 2024, she was awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship as a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Fontecave's group to explore the activation mechanism of anaerobic ribonucleotide reductases.
