Egas Bender de Moniz Bandeira holds a PhD from the Universities of Heidelberg (Germany) and Tohoku (Japan). He works as a researcher at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and as an affiliated researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the History and Theory of Law in Frankfurt. Previously, he was visiting professor of intellectual history at the University of Heidelberg.
His research focuses on the intellectual history of East Asia in a global context, in particular on the history of political and legal thought in the XIXᵉ and XXᵉ centuries. Egas Moniz Bandeira is co-editor of several collective works on world political history and Chinese historiography. He has published in journals such as Journal of Transcultural Studies, Global Intellectual History, Journal of Eurasian Studies and International History Review, among others.
He is currently vice-president of the German Association for Chinese Studies.
