Céline Surprenant is a research engineer at the Institut des études littéraires et linguistiques du Collège de France and a permanent member of " République des Savoirs " (UAR 3608). Among other activities, she coordinates the " Passage des disciplines : Histoire globale du Collège de France, XIXe-XXe siècle " program, directed by Antoine Compagnon since 2012. In this context, she has collaborated on Le Collège de France. Cinq siècles de libre recherche, A. Compagnon, Pierre Corvol, and John Scheid, 2015. With a PhD in French Studies from the University of Sussex (UK), where she was a lecturer and then assistant professor from 1996 to 2010, she has published books and articles, notably on Sigmund Freud, Pierre Janet, Marcel Proust, Henri Bergson, the history of the Collège de France, and, more generally, the history of ideas and disciplines in the 19th and 20th centuries, in journals such as French Studies, Oxford Literary Review, L'Année sociologique, Revue de synthèse, Rivista dell' Associazione Italiana di Studi Semiotici and Times Literary Supplement.
