Presentation

Adrien Genoudet has a PhD in film studies, art and visual history. In 2018, he defended a thesis entitled "L'effervescence des images. Les Archives de la Planète d'Albert Kahn", under the supervision of Christian Delage. ATER at the Collège de France, he has been attached to Pr Patrick Boucheron's chair since September 2016.

In 2017, he was awarded the first prize of the Fondation Hugot du Collège de France for his work.

He holds a Master II Research degree in History and Anthropology of Medieval and Modern Societies from Paris-I Panthéon-Sorbonne University, obtained in 2012.

He has taught cinema, history and visual arts at Sciences Po Paris since 2012 and at the École européenne supérieure de l'image (ÉESI). He also taught at EHESS between 2013 and 2014.

Since 2013, he has been associated with the Institut d'histoire du temps présent (IHTP) at the CNRS, a research associate at the Musée Albert-Kahn and a member of GRENA (Groupe de Recherche sur le Neuvième Art) at the University of Paris-IV Sorbonne.

In 2014, he created the seminar and cycle of meetings "Les écritures visuelles de l'histoire dans la bande dessinée" ("The visual writing of history in comics"). A seminar he directs with Vincent Marie and Pierre-Laurent Daurès, and which is hosted by the Archives nationales de Paris, the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) and the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée d'Angoulême.

His research focuses on the writing of history through images and the visual writing of historical time. In particular, he crosses corpuses from the visual arts, and more specifically cinema, graphic arts and comics. He published a first essay in September 2015, Dessiner l'histoire. Pour une histoire visuelle, with a preface by Pascal Ory. In February 2017, at the Collège de France and the BnF, he directed an international colloquium entitled "Visions de l'histoire: les écritures visuelles du temps".

He has been an editor on the media and research website Culture Visuelle and a research associate at Lhivic (Laboratoire d'histoire visuelle contemporaine) at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales. He is a founding member of the Euchronie platform (FRAMESPA, PLH-Érasme).

In 2016, alongside Patrick Boucheron, he created the digital magazine Entre-Temps, which he also co-edits with the professor. It was inaugurated at the Rendez-vous de l'histoire de Blois, in October 2018. He is now its editor-in-chief.

Adrien Genoudet is also a filmmaker and writer. In 2017, he published his first novel , L'Étreinte, and has directed several short and feature-length films presented at festivals and art centers. He directed the text of L'Étreinte in 2017 and 2018 at the Théâtre National de Bretagne and the Centre Pompidou. In February 2018, he presented a film installation created from Albert Kahn's Archives de la Planète at the Centre Pompidou as part of the Hors-Pistes festival.
