This year's CNRS Gold Medal, one of France's most prestigious scientific awards, goes to this Franco-Norwegian physical chemist and professor at the University of Strasbourg, for his highly interdisciplinary work in nanoscience, covering fields as diverse as carbon materials science, optics, nano-photonics and molecular chemistry. His discoveries have led to technological breakthroughs in optoelectronics, optical communications and biosensors.
