The Human Evolutionary Genetics unit at the Institut Pasteur, headed by Prof. Lluis Quintana-Murci, is interested in differences between populations in the face of infections. These differences may be due to the environment or to distinct histories that have shaped the genetic diversity of populations, notably through natural selection.
In a study published on August 9 2023 in the journal Nature, scientists from the Institut Pasteur, CNRS and Collège de France, in collaboration with researchers around the world, have investigated the causes of the plurality of responses to the SARS-CoV-2 virus depending on the geographical, ethnic and genetic origins of populations.
Understanding the causes of these different responses could have applications in patient management during future epidemics.
