Restoration of Ampère's table

Ms. Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research, Prof. Thomas Römer, Administrator of the Collège de France, Mr. René Garello, President of the French Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Mr. François Gérin, President of the Comité national Ampère 200  François Gérin, President of the Comité national Ampère 200 ans, unveiled on Monday 3 April 2023 a plaque commemorating the scientific work of André-Marie Ampère at the Collège de France, installed near the experimental device known as the " table d'Ampère " and kept at the Collège de France.

The aim was to honorthe memory of a universal mind, a major physicist and pioneer of electromagnetism and electrodynamics, as well as a chemist, mathematician and inventor, who held the General and Experimental Physics chair at the Collège de France from 1824 until his death in 1836.

The restoration is part of the Collège de France's drive to promote its scientific history and heritage.
