A better world for all

Billions of people aspire to well-being and a better life. But the Earth's resources are finite and its ecological balance fragile. The lifestyles of the affluent classes in developed countries cannot be extended to the whole planet. Should we resign ourselves to injustice ? Is a better world for all possible ? What does sustainable development   demand of us? What radical changes does it imply in our ways of thinking about the relationship between man and nature, and between poor and rich countries ? And what upheavals in our practices ? Gathered by the Collège de France in Brussels for its first European colloquium, climatologist and jurist, chemist and philosopher, biologist and Africanist, economist and architect, sinologist and biodiversity specialist combine their thoughts to sketch out what our future might hold. Jean-Pierre Changeux is Honorary Professor at the Collège de France, holding the Chair of Cellular Communications. Jacques Reisse is Professor Emeritus of Physical Chemistry at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Contributions by Jean Barthélemy, André Berger, Gilles Boeuf, Arsène Burny, Mireille Delmas-Marty, Gilbert Hottois, Jacques Livage, Pierre de Maret, Thierry Pairault, Paul-F Smets, Christine Tahon, Edwin Zaccaï.
