Papyrology really came into being in the 19th century, with the discovery of tens of thousands of Greek, Latin, Coptic and Arabic papyri on Egyptian soil. This science, never before represented at the Collège de France, is today the one with the greatest potential for renewal, with an incalculable mass of texts yet to be published and unearthed. Jean-Luc Fournet is undoubtedly one of its leaders, representing a new generation of papyrologists..
