The City of Le Havre, with the support of the Collège de France, the CNRS and the Université Le Havre Normandie, has decided to create a new cultural event to share and discover scientific research.
From September 22 to 24, 2022, this new knowledge event will bring together leading scientists from all horizons, to present their careers, their work and their discoveries, in an accessible and attractive way.
"On the Shoulders of Giants" will offer a varied program accessible to all. The program will feature a variety of events for all to enjoy, from major interviews to cartes blanches, cross-views and master classes. More interactive events will include workshops and exhibitions, not forgetting more intimate formats such as "Cafés Scientifiques".
Prof. Françoise Combes, holder of the Galaxies and Cosmology chair, and Prof. Denis Duboule, holder of the Evolution of Development and Genomeschair, will be taking part in this first edition, with two round tables on the public stakes of science, and two interviews on their vocation
"The Collège de France is delighted to be associated with the creation of this major scientific culture event, in partnership with the City of Le Havre, the CNRS and the University of Le Havre Normandie. The spirit behind the event is fully in line with the Collège de France's fundamental mission of disseminating knowledge and the results of scientific research as widely as possible. Through this partnership, we also hope to reach out to other audiences, and raise the profile of the Collège de France in the regions. My colleagues Françoise Combes, astrophysicist, and Denis Duboule, geneticist, both professors at the Collège de France, will be representing our institution in Le Havre for the first edition of "Sur les épaules des géants", and will be keen to share with all participants and audiences their passion for scientific research, as well as the questions raised today about its place and proper recognition in our society".
Thomas Römer, Administrator of the Collège de France.
