Colloquium organized by Professor Lydéric Bocquet, on May 25 2023 in the Maurice Halbwachs amphitheatre at the Collège de France (Marcelin Berthelot site).
Nanofluidics at the crossroads
This symposium is a continuation of the lecture on nanofluidics offered as part of the Technological Innovation Liliane Bettencourt chair. This world of infinitely small fluids is the frontier where the continuum of fluid mechanics meets the atomic nature of matter, or even its quantum nature.
The " molecular mechanics of fluids " has seen many advances in recent years. Thanks to the development of nanomaterials, in particular 2D nanomaterials, we now know how to build fluidic nanosystems that enable us to measure fluid properties at the smallest scales. Numerous emerging properties have been demonstrated at the nanoscale: virtually frictionless flows, emerging quantum effects, new water phases, memory effects that now make it possible to dream of ionic calculators. And many of the phenomena that have been revealed remain poorly understood.
Nanofluidics is at a crossroads. In the sense that we now need to broaden experimental approaches to go further in understanding and exploiting emerging properties. " See " at nanoscales. Develop new theoretical approaches to rationalize properties, at the interface between fluid physics and Quantum Condensed Matter Physics. Exploit emerging properties to develop nature-mimicking ion machines, the core field of iontronics.
The colloquium thus complements the lecture and seminars, bringing together researchers who approach nanofluidic transport topics from a variety of particularly promising angles.
