Michel Foucault's lectures online

Portrait of Michel Foucault - Collège de France archives.

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of Michel Foucault's death on June 25 1984, the Collège de France is making available to the public online recordings of some of his lectures at the Collège de France, made by listeners and entrusted to the institution's archives department.

Although these documents are well known and have been the subject of a critical edition published by Le Seuil, the recordings are now available online with the kind permission of Michel Foucault's heirs and Editions du Seuil.

The corresponding recordings from the year 1973-1974 on Le Pouvoir psychiatrique are already available on the Michel Foucault Chair page.

Lectures from subsequent years will be available shortly, according to the following inventory :

- Les anormaux : 1974-1975 lecture series

Il faut défendre la société   : lecture 1975-1976

- Security, territory and population : lecture 1977-1978

- Birth of biopolitics : lecture 1978-1979

- On the government of the living : 1979-1980 lecture series

- Subjectivity and truth : 1980-1981 lecture series

- Hermeneutics of the subject : lecture, 1981-1982

- Le gouvernement de soi et des autres : 1982-1983 lecture series

- The government of self and others : the courage of truth : 1983-1984 lecture series

The Archives Department of the Collège de France holds documents relating to the chair held by Michel Foucault between 1970 and 1984. It gratefully accepts donations of recordings on physical media (audio cassettes), which it undertakes to preserve, and would be grateful if those concerned would make themselves known.
