In partnership with the Collège de France, France Culture, AFP and France Médias Monde, the Institut du Monde Arabe is launching a new event to decipher current affairs.
Connected to the flow of information, the Rendez-vous de l'actualité is a moment of deciphering, exchange and perspective for all, on the latest events in the Arab world. Set a few days before the event, the subject, question or event discussed will be taken from the region's immediate news, so as to be as close as possible to what's happening.
Thursday May 31 at 7pm:
"Jerusalem, a key issue "
This debate will be preceded by a symposium starting at 2 p.m. in the Auditorium.
In the wake of Donald Trump's unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, this symposium aims to remind us of the fundamental principles of international law that are being flouted in this way, and the daily reality experienced by Palestinians in East Jerusalem. The European Union is well aware of this situation, as its consuls on the spot draw up a precise and well-documented report on East Jerusalem every year. Finally, this report will conclude with an analysis of diplomatic
positions on Jerusalem, which are currently being recomposed in the wake of the U.S. changeover
At the start of the session, to introduce the subject and plunge the audience into its reality, AFP will be showing a series of photos from its iconographic collection, related to the chosen theme.
Debate moderated by Anthony Bellanger, journalist and international editorial columnist with Les Inrocks and France Inter.
Speakers:
Philippe Golub, Professor of International Relations at the American University of Paris (to be confirmed).
Joan Deas, doctoral student and temporary lecturer in Political Science at Sciences Po Grenoble (PACTE Laboratory).
Yves Aubin de la Messuzière, ambassador, former director of ANMO at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pierre Vimont, former Secretary General of the European Union External Action Service.
