On September 7, 2001, Professor Jacques Marescaux performed the first telesurgery operation on a patient in Strasbourg, with the help of a surgical team in New York. On October 15, 2011, a team from Limoges University Hospital, led by Professor Laurent Fourcade, achieved a European first in neonatal robotic surgery with the help of the Da Vinci robot. Since 2003, Intuitive Surgical has sold over 1,800 units of this medical surgical robot. Over a million patients have now undergone robotic surgery.

From minimally invasive surgical robotics to endoluminal surgery, and beyond surgery, from implantable robots to home assistance, from neuroprostheses to comanipulators, the aim of the symposium is to present the diversity of the contributions made by robotics to healthcare, and to highlight the excellence of French research in the field.
