Mathieu Pernot wins the 2019 HCB award

june 27, 2019

Awarded by the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation, the HCB prize is a prestigious award for an established photographer who has produced significant work with a documentary sensibility. It is accompanied by a creation grant that enables the artist to carry out or pursue a project that would not be possible without this support. Mathieu Pernot's project, entitled Le Grand Tour, will take him to several countries in the Middle East. Lebanon will be the first stage of a journey that will continue along the roads of places haunted by the ruins of history. An exhibition scheduled for early 2021 at the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson and a book will document his experience.

Photographer Mathieu Pernot was the first artist in residence at the Collège de France. For almost a year and a half, he produced a number of site-specific exhibitions, collaborating with associations that welcome migrants and refugees (Français Langue d'accueil, Atelier des artistes en exil, PAUSE program) or inviting guest artists. A film reveals the encounters and events that took place in this unique place, the Collège de France, open to all forms of knowledge.
