In partnership with the Collège de France, France Culture, AFP and France Médias Monde, the Institut du Monde Arabe is launching a new event to decipher current affairs.
Connected to the flow of information, the Rendez-vous de l'actualité is a moment of deciphering, exchange and perspective for all, on the latest events in the Arab world. Set a few days before the event, the subject, question or event discussed will be taken from the region's immediate news, so as to be as close as possible to what's happening.
Rendez-vous de l'actualité in the Salle du Haut Conseil at the IMA on Thursday March 1, at 7pm:
"Tunisia: a democracy on the move?"
Seven years after the "Jasmine Revolution" that put an end to Ben Ali's authoritarian regime, Tunisia's democratic transition remains fragile. The country's economic difficulties - the government's decision to raise prices, the drop in tourism, the arrival of Libyan refugees, etc. - are fuelling social tensions, while financial support from the international community remains timid. In January, demonstrations against rising prices led to incidents (death of one protester, several hundred arrests). Is the democratic process initiated in 2011, and which remains an exception to the Arab Spring, in danger?
Hosted by Anthony Bellanger, journalist and international editorial columnist at Les Inrocks and France Inter.
Speakers:
Khadija Mohsen-Finan, specialist in the Maghreb and Mediterranean issues
Jérôme Heurtaux, lecturer in political science
