Lecture by Pr Pierre-Michel Menger " Admiring Van Gogh. The reasons for an exceptional celebrity "

On the occasion of the exhibition " Van Gogh à Auvers-sur-Oise " presented from 3 october 2023 to February 4 february 2024, the Musée d'Orsay has invited Pierre-Michel Menger, professor at the Collège de France, to take a look at the "Van Gogh phenomenon" van Gogh phenomenon ". This encounter will be illustrated live by illustrator Samuel Van der Veen, author of the graphic novel Van Gogh le dernier tableau, (Musée d'Orsay/Hazan, 2023).

As a sociologist, guest speaker Pierre-Michel Menger examines the mechanisms of celebrity and admiration, helping us to understand the " Van Gogh phenomenon ", its glory and its value. The lecture will be punctuated by drawings by Samuel Van der Veen, a young comic book artist and winner of the first prize at the Magic International Manga Contest in Monaco in 2021 for his thriller manga Imago. He is also the author of La Voie de Van Gogh, published by Shibuya-Michel Lafon in 2019. Echoing the exhibition " Van Gogh à Auvers-sur-Oise ", in 2023 he will publish Van Gogh, le dernier tableau, co-published by Hazan and the Musée d'Orsay.
