Causes and external conditions of disease and health

" Infectious diseases have long been the major cause of mortality in Europe. Their progressive control has led to a spectacular increase in life expectancy, giving way to the reign of chronic diseases (cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, cancers). Without denying the influence of genetic polymorphisms and so-called " lifestyle factors " (tobacco, alcohol, dietary imbalances, sedentary lifestyle), the author shows how changes in our ecosystems since the start of the Anthropocene and our current physico-chemical environment (persistent organic pollutants, endocrine disruptors, atmospheric pollutants, etc.) contribute to the onset of these chronic diseases.

The challenge is not only to understand the causes of death, but also to identify the causes of these causes. "
