It is with deep sadness that the Administrator, the Board of Professors and the entire Collège de France community learn of the death of Daniel Roche, Professor Emeritus at the Collège de France, who held the Chair in the History of French Enlightenment from 1999 to 2005.
They pay tribute to a professor who profoundly renewed the social and cultural history of modern Europe, and who marked generations of historians with his generosity, his taste for collective work and the scope of his work on the material and intellectual culture of the Enlightenment.
