Conference organized by Professor Esther Duflo with the support of J-PAL Europe and Community Jameel. June 22 and 23 2023 in the Marguerite de Navarre amphitheatre at the Collège de France (Marcelin Berthelot site).
Fighting poverty : from science to public policy
This symposium marks the culmination of the first year of Esther Duflo, co-founder and director of J-PAL, as holder of the Poverty and Public Policies chair at the Collège de France. This year has enabled her to take stock of the progress made in developing and promoting evidence-based policies. This colloquium is an opportunity to present future perspectives on a global level ; it is part of J-PAL's advocacy work for innovative and cost-effective responses to our most pressing challenges.
The theme of this two-day symposium is the contribution of innovation and rigorous research to the fight against poverty. The event brings together researchers, policy-makers, social entrepreneurs, funders and the general public. Its aim is to explore the role that the use of evidence can play in shaping social policy and development programs in different contexts ; to disseminate best practice in evidence-based policy at a global level ; to celebrate the progress made in the fight against poverty thanks to rigorous research ; and to take stock of the efforts that still need to be made to respond to global challenges, in particular that of climate change.
