About the Kavli Awards
The Kavli Prizes are the result of a partnership between the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, the Kavli Foundation (USA) and the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. They are named after Fred Kavli, Norwegian-born American philanthropist and founder of the Kavli Foundation.
Awarded for the first time in 2008, the prizes recognize major advances in the understanding of life at its most vast, minute and complex scale. Awarded every two years to researchers in astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience, each prize consists of a fund of one million US dollars.
