This colloquium presents three directions of research in the field of analytical chemistry. The first, highly interdisciplinary session will look at the history of this discipline and its contribution to a better understanding of the history of science and technology. The other two sessions will focus on innovative approaches, notably crystallographic, which have led to spectacular results in the fields of biology, pharmacy, archaeology and chemistry.

Philippe Walter is a chemist specializing in the study of cultural heritage materials. CNRS research director at the Centre de recherche et de restauration des musées de France until 2011, in 2012 he set up the Laboratoire d'archéologie moléculaire et structurale (LAMS) - a new joint research unit with the CNRS - at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie
