Innovation Campus for high schools

Objectives

Initiated in 2016 by Philippe Aghion, holder of the Economics of Institutions, Innovation and Growth chair, the " Innovation Campus for high schools " project is part of a partnership agreement signed with the French Ministry of Education and Youth, and is aimed specifically at first and final year students in general high schools whose catchment area is in a priority education zone, and their teachers.

  • Deepen knowledge and reasoning
  • Demystify the relationship with academic knowledge
  • Stimulate vocations, particularly among girls
  • Encourage students to project themselves into the future

Actions

The project has four components:

1. Courses and exchanges organized in France and in the Droms - Com

These exchanges are organized in cooperation with the French education authorities (Inspecteurs d'académie de l'Éducation nationale), and with students and their teachers in high schools or at the Collège de France in SES and SVT. The SVT exchanges have been filmed in their entirety, to ensure that they can be shared with students. You can find them on our website.

  • Requests for participation should be addressed to the school inspectors (inspecteurs d'académie). These requests are then passed on to the Campus team at Collège de France.
  • The topics covered during the courses are selected on the basis of the themes set out in the teaching programs.
  • Pedagogical tools are made available to teachers to help them prepare these lectures in advance with their students
    • Recordings of courses already given
    • Teaching materials in text or video format
  • Evaluation forms are sent to teachers who have taken part in the project, as feedback promotes learning effects.

2. Collège de France resources for the SES curriculum

As part of a partnership between the Collège de France and the French Ministry of Education and Youth, new SES curricula meeting the highest international standards have been designed for seconde, première and terminale by a group of 16 authors jointly led by two Collège de France professors (Philippe Aghion for economics and Pierre-Michel Menger for sociology) and two general inspectors (Marc Montoussé and Marc Pelletier). The program is also in partnership with the Fondation du Collège de France's Agir pour l'Éducation initiative.

Three basic principles:

  • Acquisition of basic concepts and reasoning in each of the disciplines making up SES: economics, sociology and political science
  • In economics, the primary focus is on microeconomics, followed by macroeconomics and modern international economics
  • A cross-disciplinary look at major societal issues ; each chapter of the program is enriched by exercises and videos.

3. A national SES competition for first-year students

4. A parental coaching program in mathematics for REP+ elementary school and 6th grade students

On the initiative of Professors Pierre-Louis Lions, Nalini Anantharaman and Philippe Aghion of the Collège de France, and Jean-Michel Beacco of the Institut Louis Pasteur, the " Campus de l'Innovation pour les Lycées " has set up, in cooperation with the French Ministry of Education, a parental coaching project in mathematics for CM2 and 6ème pupils in REP schools and colleges. Two pilot projects have been carried out at the François Villon middle school and the Jean Zay and Pierrefontaine schools in Mulhouse, as well as at the Twinger middle school in Strasbourg.
