The Groupe d'études sur les Lumièresbrings together some fifteen young and established researchers specializing in thecultural, social and intellectual history of the 18th century.It provides a framework for dialogue oncurrent research on the Enlightenment.
Beyond thediversity of their research subjects, its members share a common questioning on the mutationsof the public space of the Enlightenment, which presided over theorganization ofa colloquium on the " MediaEnlightenment", in June 2024, at theCollège de France.
The GEL, several of whose members work abroad,promotes an international approach to research on the Enlightenment, by encouraging thehosting of foreign researchers and discussion of their work. It encourages interdisciplinary approaches, in dialogue with historians of literature and philosophy.
