Salamander

Named in homage to François1er, founder of the Collège de France, of which this animal was the emblem, Salamandre is both the digital heritage library and the catalog of the Collège de France archives.

The digital heritage library features several thematic collections, each of which brings together a corpus from the archives and libraries, in a variety of subject areas: experimental sciences, anthropology, archaeology, etc. Salamandre provides access to digital versions of early works, archival documents (manuscripts, plans, drawings), photographs (mainly from the 19th century) and videos concerning the work of professors and the history of the Collège de France. New documents are added regularly. Videos of lectures are gradually being subtitled.

Conditions for reuse of digitized documents are specified in the Legal Notice section.

Salamandre has been created and put online in partnership with the Fondation du Collège de France and the Fondation de l'Orangerie.

Photo library

The Collège de France's institutional photo library features over 11,000 photographs retracing the history of the Collège de France and all its constituent parts. It includes portraits of all active professors, all honorary professors since 2000, and some of the professors who held chairs in the 20th century.

It also features photographs of the university's real estate and movable assets (buildings, statues, scientific instruments), as well as events such as colloquia, inaugural lectures, seminars and official visits in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Conditions for re-use of photographs are specified in the Legal Notice section.
