- 1952-1981: Professor at the Collège de France, chair History and social structures of Paris and the Paris region
- 1953: Advisor to several prefects of the Seine department for around ten years, the first being Préfet Émile Pelletier. Commission des sites, etc.
- 1959: Responsible for the Humanities on the Comité des 12 de la Recherche Scientifique created by General de Gaulle (see "Scientific Research and Humanities" in "Population" 1959, no. 3)
- 1961: Creation and President of the International Center for the Study of Human Problems in Monaco
- 1982: Louis Chevalier's Paris archives, prior to 1968, deposited with the Yale University Library, Department of Manuscripts and Archives
