Jean-Maurice Verdier, one of the great names in labor law, left us on December 2, 2018. His work marked the evolution of trade union law and freedom, and more broadly of employees' fundamental rights. Jean-Maurice Verdier held important responsibilities, both at university (notably as President of the University of Nanterre (from 1976 to 1981) and at the International Labour Organization (as a member of the Committee of Experts on the Application of International Labour Conventions and Recommendations from 1974 to 2000) and within the International Society of Labour and Social Security Law, which he chaired from 1974 to 1982. A committed academic, he was also one of the promoters of the participatory research conducted by ATD Fourth World with people living in extreme poverty.
All these facets of his work will be evoked at a meeting organized in his memory at the Collège de France by the Chair "État social et mondialisation : analyse juridique des solidarités", in partnership with the Association Française de droit du travail et de la sécurité sociale, which Jean-Maurice Verdier chaired from 1974 to 1991. This tribute will look not only to the past, but also to the future, which his work is helping to illuminate.
This meeting, open to all subject to availability, will take place on June 21 from 2 to 6 pm at the Collège de France, Amphithéâtre Guillaume Budé, 11 place Marcelin-Berthelot, ParisVe.
