Ensemble intercontemporain

Created by Pierre Boulez in 1976 with the support of Michel Guy (then Secretary of State for Culture) and the collaboration of Nicholas Snowman, the Ensemble intercontemporain is dedicated to music from the 20th century to the present day.

The thirty and un solo musicians are led by French conductor Pierre Bleuse. United by the same passion for creation, they participate in the exploration of new musical territories alongside composers, who are commissioned to write new works each year.

This creative process is nourished by inventions and encounters with other forms of artistic expression : dance, theater, video, plastic arts, etc.

The Ensemble also develops projects integrating new technologies (computer music, multimedia, spatialization techniques, etc.), some in collaboration with Ircam (Institut de recherche et coordination acoustique/musique).

Training activities for young performers and composers, educational concerts and numerous cultural initiatives for the general public reflect the company's ongoing commitment to the transmission of musical knowledge.

In residence at the Cité de la musique - Philharmonie de Paris, the Ensemble intercontemporain performs in France and abroad, where it is regularly invited by major international venues and festivals.

In 2022, it won the prestigious Polar Music Prize.

Financed by the French Ministry of Culture, the Ensemble also receives support from the City of Paris.
