About the " Collection of Greek Ritual Norms " project

The Collection of Greek Ritual Norms (CGRN) project has led to the online publication of two hundred and twenty-two inscriptions in the misnamed category of " sacred laws " or leges sacrae(http://cgrn.ulg.ac.be). The texts included to date concern the themes of sacrifice and purification. In the medium term, the project aims to compile a collection of some five hundred texts, which should make it possible to replace and update the esteemed volumes published by Franciszek Sokolowski in the mid-twentiethcentury .

In addition to the creation of this computerized tool, the CGRN project is intended to provide an opportunity for in-depth analysis of these various types of document, which emanate from a wide variety of bodies, contain no less varied prescriptions and offer a wealth of information on the rituals performed by cities and the various groups that make them up, including households in the case of family " foundations ". It would be an understatement to say that these inscriptions provide us with data that would remain inaccessible to the historian of Greek religion without the regular epigraphic harvest provided by systematic excavations or fortuitous discoveries.

This May's 2018 meeting brings together over two days a group of researchers engaged, in one way or another, in the study of such documents, both old and newly discovered.

Knowledge of ancient Greek is desirable for this symposium.
