  • september 30, 2021 (morning) at the Amphithéâtre Halbwachs, Collège de France

These study days, organized at the Louvre Auditorium and the Collège de France, invite us to discover the Louvre's Department of Oriental Antiquities, the history of its collections, its scientific and cultural production and its cooperative activities, closely linked to the birth and development of the discipline known as "Oriental Archaeology". Its museographic evolution, its reception by the public and its place both within the palace and internationally, are just some of the themes and reflections addressed, with, for want of being able to evoke all those who have worked in the department since the 19th century, a place of honor given to its first curator, the archaeologist Léon Heuzey.

Members of the department, curators from the Louvre, outside researchers and students will take part in two round-table discussions, in the form of solo and duo papers, to reflect on, share and exchange views on the department's activities on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of its administrative creation.
