Abstract
Traditionally, actors were hired to do jobs that condemned them to playing the same range of characters throughout their careers. It was in the 1980s, notably with Antoine Vitez, that this practice began to crumble, giving way to roles and a wider range of possibilities. However, representation biases persist, and the debate also focuses on the issue of diversity, both on stage and on screen.
