Abstract
Preserved at the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology in Cairo, the papyrus presented here contains the hitherto unknown remains of thirty verses by the pre-Socratic philosopher Empedocles of Agrigento (5th century BC), and is complementary to the famous scroll known as " Empedocles of Strasbourg ", edited in 1999 by A. Martin and O. Primavesi. Particular attention will be paid to the circumstances of its discovery and to the characteristics of its support, layout, writing and text, which shed light on its relationship with the Strasbourg papyrus and ensure its identification. We will then examine the contents of the papyrus, which can be identified with a passage from the Physica relating to the theory of pores, in order to clarify the contribution of this new piece to our knowledge of the work and thought of Empedocles.
