Following on from previous seminars on learning arithmetic and reading, the 2010 seminar focused on recent advances in the field of learning, and their implications for education and rehabilitation. How can we optimize lectures to maximize memory retention? Should we prefer strictly visual teaching of reading, or rather multi-sensory learning? How does implicit learning, such as spelling, work, and what are its limits? What statistics do children compile to learn their written or spoken language? Is learning modulated by the context of social communication and the signals sent by the teacher? Does sleep really play an important role in consolidating learning? All these questions were addressed by specialists in learning and cognitive development.
